About Me

  • Hello you. I'm a 38-year old MSc student, studying Advanced Computer Science at Sussex University. I'm especially interested in Internet and mobile software, sensors and pervasive computing, user interfaces, and the process of developing great software.

Before that I spent 11 years running Future Platforms, a software company I co-founded which makes lovely things for mobile phones, and which I sold in 2011.

I read a lot, write here, and practice Aikido and airsoft. I live in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of the UK, with two cats and a clown.

Hi Tom,

Amongst a load of other people I'm trying to hire for DisplayLink, we are also after a technical writer (well a Patent Writer), part time. This lady could be ideal..

Can you put us in touch?

Either as a part time role (two-to-three days per week) or as a 2-3 out of 5 days in patent writing with the remaining two days working as a specialist white-paper and advanced technical writer, based in the Cambridge UK office.

Reporting to VP Strategic Engineering & IP, the incumbent will have a strong influence in recognising, capturing, documenting innovation and patentable ideas within DisplayLink.

The primary task will be to interview DisplayLink inventors and engineers to extract and document innovative ideas, leading on to creating patent applications. A key component of this activity is to help inventors further explore and investigate their ideas.

Essential attributes:
• Previous technical and engineering writing experience
• Excellent and engaged listener
• Technically credible in a strong engineering environment
• Articulate and inquisitive
• Excellent attention to detail
• Degree qualified or equivalent

Desirable attributes:
• Product marketing background
• Some knowledge of computer architectures, graphics and networking
• Previous patent writing experience
